BuzzFeed Unsolved (also known as simply Unsolved) is a weekly web series originally on the BuzzFeed Blue YouTube channel, since July 13, 2018, on the channel BuzzFeed Unsolved Network, that also streams on Amazon Prime, Facebook, and Hulu. The series started in 2016, with the first few episodes originally being a part of BuzzFeed's IRL series, and is created by Ryan Bergara.

The show has now been divided into BuzzFeed Unsolved: True Crime, which deals with unsolved crimes, and BuzzFeed Unsolved: Supernatural, which deals with paranormal mysteries and ghost hunting, having a total of 7 seasons. There is another spin-off series called BuzzFeed Unsolved: Postmortem in which the hosts answer fan-asked questions about the most recent episode. True Crime first aired on February 4, 2016, and Supernatural first aired on April 26, 2016. The series has recently finished its 4th season of Supernatural, which began on April 20, 2018 and ended June 8, 2018.

The show covers unsolved crimes, haunted places, demonic possessions, and historical occurrences that defy explanation, presenting them and the theories that surround them in a dark, yet comedic manner. In some episodes, they visit the actual places where the unexplained events or unsolved crime occurred, often ghost hunting during Supernatural episodes.

In December 2017, Bergara started a Facebook Watch-based spin off show, BuzzFeed Unsolved: Sports Conspiracies, with Zack Evans co-hosting in place of Madej in which various conspiracy theories in the world of sports are discussed.

On July 13 2018, season 4 of True Crime premiered alongside the announcement that the series would be moving to its own YouTube channel, BuzzFeed Unsolved Network.

Hosts

The Buzzfeed Unsolved: True Crime & Supernatural shows are currently hosted by Ryan Bergara and co-hosted by Shane Madej, who took over from the original co-host, Brent Bennett, in late 2016. The contrast between Bergara's belief in conspiracies and the paranormal and Madej's (formerly Bennett's) arbitrary skepticism is a key element throughout the series. Bergara believes in ghosts, demons, and aliens, but does not believe in things such as Bigfoot. Madej is skeptical of most things, except Bigfoot and aliens.

There are three fan groups based around each host. Those who believe in ghosts like Bergara are the "Boogaras" and those who are skeptics like Madej are the "Shaniacs". An additional group based upon fans who do not fall into either are called "Shitfishes." The hosts coined all three phrases. Although they are also the "Berry Boys" due to a visit to a berry amusement park, they are infamously known as the self-proclaimed title of "Ghoul Boys" (mainly by Madej), the two slay demons and ghosts.

Guests

In BuzzFeed Unsolved: Supernatural Season 4 Ancient Aliens contributor Giorgio Tsoukalos was featured in the discussion about a potential UFO sighting.

The Hotdaga

At the end of Post Mortem episodes, the animated creations of Madej are shown. This series is commissioned by and stars Bergara. They are animated mini-episodes featuring stories which are also narrated by Madej. Bergara is not a fan of the series, but listens to it as it is narrated to the audience. The series originated when Madej jokingly wanted a skate boarding hot dog at the end of a Q + A episode, and it has grown to multiple mini-episodes and musical numbers. Fans of the series have also made season compilations on YouTube for other fans to watch the shorts in their entirety.
